Embark on an enriching journey through Kenya’s diverse landscapes, from the captivating Castle Forest to the serene Samburu National Reserve. Your Itinerary

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, commence your birdwatching journey with a visit to Karura Forest, taking into consideration your arrival time. Spend the night at a hotel in Nairobi.

Depart early from your Nairobi accommodation, with scheduled stopovers at Blue Post Hotel and Thika Wetlands before proceeding to Sagana Lodge in Nyeri. Enjoy birdwatching activities, including the search for the endemic Hinde’s babbler. The following day, dedicate a full day to birding in Castle Forest, where you can spot species such as the white-headed wood hoopoe, brown-capped weaver and more

Leave Castle Forest for Samburu National Reserve, bringing along picnic lunches for your exploration. Discover the reserve’s dry country specialties, including the Somali bee-eater, Vulturine guinea fowl, and Eastern yellow-billed hornbill. Accommodations will be provided at a camp or lodge within the reserve.

Engage in birdwatching activities en route to Lake Baringo, with a stop for birding around the campgrounds. In the evening, embark on a boat ride to observe waterbirds. Accommodations will be arranged at a camp or lodge.

 

Spend the day birding at Lake Baringo, aiming to spot species such as the northern white-faced scops owl and Abyssinian scimitarbill. Accommodations will be provided at a mid-range camp or lodge.

Depart for Kakamega with packed lunches, arriving in time for an evening bird walk. Explore Kakamega Forest for unique bird species, including Guinea-Congolian types like the blue-billed bristlebill and Kakamega hyliota. Accommodations will be arranged at a camp or lodge.

Drive to Kisumu, making stops at Busia grasslands for birdwatching in Dunga hills and swamps. Accommodations will be arranged at a lodge in Kisumu.

 

Travel from Kisumu to Lake Naivasha, where you’ll enjoy an afternoon boat ride. Accommodations will be provided at a camp or lodge.

Dedicate the day to birdwatching at Lake Naivasha and Kinangop Grasslands, seeking species such as Sharpe’s longclaw. Later, proceed to Aberdare National Park for late afternoon birding.

Spend a half-day birdwatching in Aberdare National Park to observe forest specialists. Afterwards, journey towards Nairobi with a stop at Manguo Swamp, where you may spot the rare Maccoa duck if not previously seen. Conclude your journey with a drop-off at the airport or your chosen hotel.
